WHO WE ARE

Equipping coaches to break barriers and foster equity in youth sports.

The word “PILR” is derived from the phrase “pillars of the community,” an expression referring to the people and/or institutions that are critical to community functioning and collective wellbeing.

We are a Philadelphia-based organization, and we believe coaching is more than just guiding athletes—it’s about shaping lives, fostering resilience, and breaking down systemic barriers that impact under resourced student-athletes.

Founded by Coach Beulah “Coach B” Osueke, a trailblazing coach and community leader, PILR provides a multidimensional coaching model that equips coaches with the tools to support the mental, emotional, and social well-being of student-athletes. Our programs bridge the gap between coaching and community care, ensuring that young athletes—especially those from marginalized backgrounds—have the guidance and resources they need to thrive.

OUR MISSION

To promote healthy coaching practices and reduce barriers impacting underresourced student-athletes, through leadership development and community building.

OUR GOALS

Create a network for coaches to connect with each other.
Reduce barriers impacting student-athletes.
Elevate the standard of coaching and care in athletics.

COMPETITIVE ANALYSIS

REDEFINing COACHING TO UNIQUELY DRIVE SOCIAL CHANGE.

Unlike other youth sports organizations, we emphasize ongoing leadership development for coaches and address systemic barriers that hinder young people’s ability to thrive.

By empowering coaches to act as agents of change within their communities, PILR is creating pathways for cultural shifts (within and beyond sports) that tackle inequities at their root causes. With a sports-agnostic and scalable approach, we are well positioned for national scale.

PILR’S EARLY IMPACT

Though we are in the early stages of development, PILR is built on a proven foundation. Founder Coach B’s past leadership—marked by historic championship wins, innovative mentorship programs, and deep community engagement—has already demonstrated the power of our approach. Testimonials from former players, parents, and fellow coaches affirm that PILR’s model works.

Her leadership style emphasized both skill development and personal growth, creating a space where I felt empowered to excel on and off the court.”

“Experiencing Coach B’s leadership was transformative for me, both a player and as a person. She fostered a sense of accountability, teamwork, and mutual respect that extended beyond sports, leaving a lasting impact in our lives and pushing us to want more for ourselves. I can honestly say I don’t know where I would be if Coach B had not been my basketball coach in high school, or how far I would have gone.”

It’s safe to say PILR and Coach B’s approach works.”

“Being coached by Coach B at West Catholic, and benefiting from PILR’s model before it developed into what is is now was truly a blessing. She worked to ensure we were not only prepared for collegiate level play but also for life as young black women navigating the real world. Coach B taught us the meaning of sisterhood, and what it means to truly have each other’s back on and outside of the court. I respect Coach B so much. As a player she has pushed me to my fullest potential, even when I couldn’t see it for myself. I’ve accomplished so much because of her.”

Coach B teaches community, accountability, discipline and structure to inner city kids, while ensuring that coaches “practice what we preach” and lead by example.”

“PILR’s approach is not only on executing Xs and Os, developing effective scouting reports, or guiding players through insightful film sessions. It also underscores the importance of breaking bread as a family of coaches, players, siblings and parents, having team traditions to ensure consistency and build a community-centered environment, and maintaining a level mindset when officiating calls do not go our way and when the playing field does not feel even.”

Through PILR, I trust that she’ll create a blueprint for what passionate, caring, and hardworking leadership and dedication to our babies can and should look like.”

“I can’t put into words how grateful I am for Coach B. She was not just a coach to my daughter, she was her mentor, role model, and bonus mother. Coach B always put her whole heart and soul into making the girls be the best they could be, even when, and especially when, they couldn’t see their own potential.”
